At GSE Timing, we have been hard at work since 2003 on providing timing solutions for all types of fitness events for both schools and citizen events.
Our mission, which we take very seriously, and is why we exist, is "To Enhance The Experience Of Athletes, Coaches, And Families Via Technology-Driven Results Services." I have been involved in distance running in Minnesota since 1971. For a guy without much talent, I have benefited from a ton of memories and this work is an attempt to give back to the sport.
"Now" is our current state of functionality and level of performance and we don't expect it to change. We have arrived! Below are some of the things that are embedded in that...that make us who we are and who we will continue to be.
Not many timers do things this way any more. There are advantages to doing things this way (flexibility, lower cost, and local control) but there are also disadvantages (software glitches being the biggest). We are proud of our products: our timing software (Race Time and Meet Time) and our web utilities ( GSE Timing,GSE Race Day, Our Nutrition/Fitness App, Race Time App). And, while we suffered through a horrendous glitch to start the 2024 season, that is a non-issue moving forward because "I will code no more forever." I'm ready to just run my business and time races.
We have begun partnering with Athletic.net for cross-country and track and field to different degrees. and with Race Roster for our citizens events. We believe both of these entities have much to offer without stripping us of our uniqueness and identity.
We started T&F two years ago and are proceeding cautiously. We saw much growth last spring and are looking forward to even more in 2025. Our goal is to do small- to mid-sized events, and events that need timing when other timers are not available (ie: after weather-related postponements). Just looking for our niche.
Mile splits, relay splits, multi-sport transitons, attractive and informative results pages, an Announcer's Portal, truss, inflatable arch, individual results emails/text messages as folks finish, and the best race gallery ever (ok, we're biased). And for cross-country and Nordic Skiing, our "near live" results (as well as splits) include team scores as the event develops. Watch your team come from behind or maintain it's position in near-live time. We've also added team colors and monograms this year to make our searchable results pages cleaner, more attractive, and easier to use.
Along with RFID Ultra and Trident UHF chip timing systems, we have also begun incorporating FinishLynx into our services, a must for Track & Field, but a great option for cross-country as well. We are also finishing up our "PC-in-a-box" that we put at remote splits stations. In the winter we use Nano Stations when we can't get out trailer to the finish line.
Partially because we do things a little differently, and partially because of who knows what, we seem to meet with more resistance than I think other timing groups do. Some of that resistance is well intentioned and some not-so-much. We don't care. We like who we are and we like where we are right now. Like a kite, regardless of whether the wind was an ill wind or not, we've gone straight into it and used it to rise.
We lose some races every year and we pick some up. We are usually between 150-175 per year, including 55-60 cross-country meets, which is just about what our staff can handle.
Loyalty is very important to us. We provide it and we hope to receive it in return. Any events that are on our calendar as of 9/1/2024 that are using our standard pricing will never see a price increase. Our prices will increase to some degree in 2025, but not for those who have shown loyalty as we have grown, evolved, and matured to the level that we are now. Thank you!
Whatever we have brought to the table for fitness events, cross-country running, or Nordic Skiing has been soley through the grace of Almighty God, without whom none of this would be possible...or necessary.
